Vello Virkhaus was born on November 14, 1973 in Rochester New York.

Virkhaus began his commercial art career in the early 90’s upon graduation from S.A.I.C working concurrently in the post production and early rave business as an animator and VJ with OVT visuals, one of the first notable VJ businesses in America. In 2000 Virkhaus moved to Los Angeles and founded V Squared Labs, offering clients premium visual artistry experiences in a boutique studio environment. Virkhaus and team launched the studio through collaborations with notable hollywood directors such as Jim Gable (Korn, Sting), Nathan Karma Cox (Korn, Linkin Park) Artfag/Control Freak (Bon Jovi, Beyonce, Destiny’s Child, Gwen Stefani, Korn, Robinhood Foundation) Alex Proyas (Dark City) and Newline Cinema Home Entertainment division.

Virkhaus has found success through numerous creative endeavors and left his mark on the music and video art entertainment business world wide. Most notably, Virkhaus and his collaborators are the masterminds behind some of the most successful, immersive concert visuals and 3D projection mapped experiences of the decade. These include the LAPhil 100 Year Celebration, Amon Tobin’s ISAM, Blizzard Entertainment’s Starcraft 2 Stage at Blizzcon, The Skrillex Cell, The Krewella Volcano, Infected Mushroom Fungus Among Us, The Datsik Vortex and many more. These multimedia visual experiences have integrated sculpture, technology, animation, lighting and visual storytelling.

In 2018 V Squared Labs and Tandem Digital Entertainment merged to form a new entity called XiteLabs.

Through the leadership of Russell and Virkhaus the company continuously executes next level experiential visual artistry. The duo is always taking “never been done” concepts and turning them into reality. This process always starts with the blank page, and working with clients to define the words, scenery, illumination, content, interactivity, and the means to deliver it all.
