Emery Caleb Martin, is a multi-racial Los Angeles-based Artist and Designer working across mediums with a recent focus on light, space, sound, and site. As a Co-Founder and Creative Director at the Los Angeles-based design studio, Electronic Countermeasures, he moves between between lighting design, production design, and video design, roles to create some of the most spectacular and noteworthy live shows, broadcasts, and installations of the last decade with Alt-J, Beck, Bruno Mars, Coachella, Elton John, Eurovision, Garbage, The Grammy’s, Fiat Chrysler, The Foo Fighters, LACMA, MoMA, The 1975, and even the Obamas.
A master and educator of multitudes of visual and sonic mediums and techniques, he has seamlessly moved between genres while doing research and development to hybridize and create new forms that are seen in his personal practice and professional practice. His works have been shown at the Milano Film Festival, Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, Taiwanese International Animation Festival, The Contemporary Austin, and Walt Disney Concert Hall. He has taught at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) School of Film Video, Theater School, Art School, Woodbury University’s School of Media, Culture, and Design, and guest lectured at SVA and The New School. Martin was a member of the experimental doom noise project EXO//ENDO and is a current collaborator with the mele oli doomgaze band Shrine Maiden while also being a lifelong runner, who never listens to music on runs.
